The battle over same-sex marriage ban in California has entered the court. The controversial case is to begin next week. But it has attracted a lot of media and public attention because for the first time in California’s history the whole proceedings will be videotaped.

Besides, it will be uploaded to a video-sharing website. This ruling has come from the presiding judge. Some sociologists are not sure of its impact on society across the country.

The idea of broadcasting this case was the brain child of Chief U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker. His idea was that the court staff will be involved in videotaping the program. It was planned that after that it would be broadcast on the YouTube website.

“It's important for the transmission to be absolutely within the court's control," feels Walkers.

Legal experts, who have been following court proceedings, say that if it takes place then it will be a sort of history because before this no federal trial in a Western state has been taped. Besides, it has never been made public and never such a trial’s whole proceeding has been posted on a website.

However, Walker is unperturbed with all this. He said: "I always thought that if people could see how the judiciary really works, they would take a somewhat different view of it."
