Ellen DeGeneres Pays Lesbian Schoolgirl $30,000

Openly gay TV personality and new American Idol judge Ellen DeGeneres has handed a teenage lesbian caught in a Mississippi school scandal a $30,000 scholarship.

The star invited high school student Constance McMillen onto her daily TV talk show on Friday and presented the speechless teen with a cheque.

McMillen hit the headlines earlier this month when she challenged Itawamba County School District officials' rules that prevented her from escorting her girlfriend to the prom.

The school district cancelled the 2 April event after McMillen’s request.

Officials at the American Civil Liberties Union are taking the school board bosses to court to force them to reschedule the prom.

I am so proud of Constance and Ellen for not letting the Itawamba County School District officials keep 'em down! Ellen is really putting herself on the map with all she does for our community. Her mainstream presence is like a beacon for the rest of us to follow. I was so happy to see her smiling face on the United States Post Office's homepage recently. My girlfriend, Jeri Estes, is a lot like Ellen in her personality; strong, funny and full of life. She recently completed her first novel that is based on her experience of surviving in San Francisco's first gay ghetto, prior to the Castro, during the 1960s. She has been signed by a Manhattan literary agency, Fletcher and Company. Her agent wants to take her story "all the way to the Academy Awards." I could talk all day about this, so please read more at: www.stilettosandsteel.com. The e-book version is available on Amazon now and a signed limited edition is available on the project website above. Thanks for your support of Stilettos and Steel. It's about time the woman is the gangster and not just married to one.
